We warmly invite you to the exhibition STUDY OF A FLOWER, taking place at the Edward Dwurnik Foundation in Warsaw.

The exhibition explores whether contemporary Polish and international art can still offer an engaging narrative around the theme of the flower. It presents various aspects and meanings conveyed by contemporary representations of flowers and flowering plants — an attempt to find compelling and moving interpretations of this ancient motif, with particular attention to:

folk tradition and its decorative character (Władysława Dwurnik, Zdzisław Walczak, Edward Dwurnik),

ancient beliefs in the healing powers of plants (Alicja Biała, Sylwia Zawiślak),

a critique of the decadent glamour associated with flowers (Przemysław Matecki, Gina Fischli, Pola Dwurnik),

the flower as a visualisation of human emotions (Rikako Kawauchi, Claudia & Julia Müller),

and finally, the motif of transience and death (Łukasz Rusznica, Artur Żmijewski, Teresa Gierzyńska).

A special element of the exhibition will be a series of embroidered compositions created by Edward Dwurnik’s mother, Władysława Dwurnik, which will be presented to the public for the first time.

Poetry by Natalia Malek will also play an important role in the exhibition, appearing throughout the space in audio form.

During the exhibition, there will be guided tours, meetings with participating artists, lectures exploring the exhibition’s central theme, and workshops for children and young people.
