Demony i klechdy ludowe

2015

In the seemingly calm and harmonious paintings, we find violent, terrible and frightening scenes in the abundance and richness of nature. A nightmare lurking in the farmer's life, death (plague) wreaking havoc on the local population, a severed head, a drowning man, a witch at the foot of a wall, a goddess kidnapping a child. In simple interiors, ordinary situations, some horrors suddenly play out. Zawiślak wants us to see something in this artistically processed demonological material that arouses a feeling of dread in us, an evil always lurking nearby, not far away, just behind the door. He wants us to feel what the listeners of demonic stories feel - insecurity, and he uses very simple and evocative tools for this, harmonious lines and simplified images of figures. Typical of our idea of the folkloric.
